If you’re on the lookout for a delightful culinary experience that embodies the heart and soul of British comfort food, look no further than Stephen St Chippery. Nestled in the charming locale of Bury, this restaurant is a must-visit for those who crave classic fish and chips along with other traditional fare.

As you step inside, you’re welcomed by a warm atmosphere filled with the delightful aroma of freshly cooked meals. The ambiance is relaxed and inviting, making it the perfect spot to enjoy a hearty meal with family and friends. The friendly staff greets you with bright smiles, adding to the welcoming environment that keeps bringing locals and visitors alike back for more.

Cuisine: The menu offers a variety of quintessential British dishes, with a standout selection of fish and chips that locals rave about. Many reviewers, such as Neil Jebb, have praised the generous portion sizes, ensuring that you leave with a satisfied and full belly. You can expect the fish to be hot, tasty, and coated in a crispy batter that perfectly complements its flaky interior. However, it’s worth noting that some have encountered inconsistencies, like Yvonne Hughes who mentioned the need for a more carefully prepared batter—a critical aspect when it comes to fish and chips.

Aside from fish, you’ll find traditional British treats such as Holland's puddings and rag pudding, as well as comforting sides like mushy peas and rich gravy. One of the highlights, as ICJ Red recounted, is the nostalgic appeal of their classic offerings, making it a perfect place for an authentic taste of home or a cure for homesickness.

Although there have been some mentions of delays with food preparation, which Jayne Leach noted in her review, the quality of the food often outweighs these minor inconveniences. It’s clear that Stephen St Chippery is dedicated to serving delicious meals, with many patrons like Pete Entwistle commending the ample portions of chips and mouthwatering curry sauce that accompany their main dishes.

As you savor your meal, take a moment to enjoy the charming decor and ensure you don’t miss out on unique items like large pickled eggs, a delightful add-on that completes the traditional experience. With great prices and ample portions, it’s certainly like finding a hidden gem—one that you might find yourself returning to time and time again.

If you're in Bury, make it a point to pop by Stephen St Chippery; it promises hearty food, friendly service, and an authentic taste of Britain that is sure to satisfy.

1st time here and won't be the last. Food was hot, tasty and plentiful to the point nobody could finish the food. Amazing prices, awesome staff, and each with a smile on their faces. And large pickled eggs n onions to complete the job. Worthy of all 5 stars

I believe the chippy has been taken over, food quality great taste, however, the fish batter was burnt on my fish, and the regular portion of chips where merely 10 chips, not a hearty portion unfortunately, I was also waiting over 35 minutes for my order to be ready. (I ordered fish on arrival) , there's plenty of room for improvement so we shall see how it goes hopefully sort itself out soon, like I said the chips where cooked nicely and the fish itself tasted amazing it wasn't dry. But the quantity of chips, for the price you charged was not worth it

Just called in for lunch, disappointed that they had ran out of Rag Puddings so I opted for a Pea Fritter. I bit into the fritter and almost heaved on finding long strands of onion the texture of which makes me ill. I’ve never come across onions in a Pea Fritter and I’m not alone in disliking the texture of onions. Totally ruined my lunch - Be warned

On a visit back from Australia and craving a pudding, chips, peas and gravy, I decided to visit here after reading about it in Gary Neville's book. Fantastic food, staff are lovely and friendly. Would definitely recommend
